Winter - Arena Polo The Druids Lodge Arena Polo Club was founded in 2001, with the arena surrounded by beech and holly trees, not only providing a beautiful backdrop but also providing shelter allowing teaching and polo to carry on comfortably, even in the worst weather. In addition, the arena is floodlit to allow chukkas and coaching to continue later into the evenings. It is 100 yards by 38 yards boarded and netted, with a 'Polytrack' surface, which has such an excellent drainage system, that only heavy snowfall has ever stopped polo from taking place in the arena. The clubhouse is converted from an old feed mill and overlooks the ground with excellent viewing available through the large safety glass windows and from the balcony, which connects the clubhouse to the arena. The atmosphere inside the club is warm and friendly, with a wood burning stove and a club bar serving bacon rolls and homemade soup. Tea and coffee are provided free of charges to members and visitors. The arena season starts at the October half term and continues to the last weekend of March. Polo is played on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am and on Thursday afternoons. Tournament polo is played most weekends after club chukkas. |

Summer - Outdoor Polo Our summer club boasts two full-size boarded grounds, a practise ground and a stick and ball ground. All of the grounds have been treated with 'Springway' rubber crumb providing the benefits of a sanded ground but with greater soil improvement. Club chukkas are played every Saturday and Sunday at 11am and on Thursdays at 5pm. We guarantee that there will be at least one professional player on every team during chukkas to provide an excellent standard of polo. Club professionals are also available to members at a discount rate to play in tournaments at Druids Lodge. Tournaments at 3 to 4 and 4 to 6 goal level are played each month during the season. An innovation at Druids is the one day matches for players of the same handicap, with a professional in each team. This format produces excellent friendly, but competitive polo, allowing players to play against others of the same skill level. |
