Weekend Warriors take home the Druids Rose Bowl

After two of the closest matches we’ve seen this season, visiting team Weekend Warriors won the 2018 Druids Rose Bowl.

In the semi-finals they came up against a young Druids team consisting of four energetic one goalers who certainly gave them a run for their money in the first half. Weekend Warriors came out re-energised after a half time chat with HPA Chairman and father of their number one, Stephen Hutchinson and went on to level the score by the bell to end the fourth chukka. In the extra thirty seconds a spectacular lofted field goal from Harrison Boyd put their team into the final.

In the final (rescheduled due to the rain!) they met Geronimo Jones, now playing as Fyfield Flyers with Clare Macnamara replacing Patrick Drummond, and they had spectators on the edge of their seats once again with a close game and constantly changing lead. Weekend Warriors thought they had it in the bag going into the last but a flurry of goals from Eden Ormerod levelled the scores, 6 all at the final bell. Again the game went into the extra 30 seconds, and Brook Bishop managed to get the ball between the posts securing victory for his team. Phew!

Geronimo Jones/ Fyfield Flyers: Clare Macnamara 0, Danielle Lussi 0, Jon Vickery 0, Eden Ormerod 4

Weekend Warriors: Gina Hutchinson 0, Harrison Boyd 0, Lachie Gilmore 2, Brook Bishop 2
