Canonbury takes home the Copra Cup sponsored by Boomerang Nutrition

Six teams entered the Copra Cup which shaped up to be a really exciting tournament. The teams were split into two leagues of three for a series of league games to determine the  placings for Sunday’s final. In League A Druids Lodge had a narrow 6-7 loss to Canonbury and then went on to beat Whitehorse 8-3.5. Canonbury also beat Whitehorse 8-7, securing them a place in Sunday’s final. In League B Flying Aces had a good 6-2 win over Dragonfly Polo and then went onto beat Propero 6-4 to go through to the final. Dragonfly Polo beat Propero 9-4 to qualify for the subsidiary final against Druids Lodge. Propero would take on Whitehorse in the sub sub final.

Sunday’s games kicked off with the sub sub final, 3rd place in each league taking to the field. Propero were first to make their mark on the scoreboard and had the edge on Whitehorse at half time 3-2.5, the lead was chopping and changing throughout the second half but a late goal from Brad Dommett secured victory for Propero, 5-4.

Druids Lodge and Dragonfly played an extremely close subsidiary final with the score tied 4 all at half time. Dragonfly edged ahead in the third and lengthened their lead in chukka four to come home the winners, 9-7.

The final started with a pair of goals from Flying Aces’s Roddy Stanning and nothing in answer from Canonbury! The second chukka saw a goal per team so the score sat at 3-1 at half time. However the tables turned and Flying Aces had a very quiet second half with the Canonbury team finding the space to notch up three more goals, the score at the final bell was Canonbury 4, Flying Aces 3.
