The first tournament of the 2023 season was the – somewhat inappropriately named – Midsummer Trophy. Four teams took to the field with Dragonfly Polo and Fyfield Flyers winning their respective semi finals to make it to Sunday’s final, Maurice Ormerod filling in for brother Eden who had sustained an injury. The first half was very even, a goal from Andrew Wessels put his team just ahead at half time. Maurice had a strong third chukka with Dragonfly Polo increasing their lead to 6.5 – 4 at the bell, Fyfield Flyers staged a bit of a comeback in the final chukka but it wasn’t enough to close the gap and the score at the final bell was 7.5-6 to Dragonfly Polo.
Druids Lodge took on Propero in the subsidiary final and Druids Lodge took an early early lead, the score 5 – 3 at half time. A goal each from Alex Welham and Jess Andrews in the second half helped to narrow the gap but Druids Lodge edged ahead again with a couple of good goals from George Fraemohs and the score line finished at 8 – 5 to Druids Lodge.
