The curtain raiser for the second Fireside event of the season was the new Sugar Bowl Trophy and we were pleased to welcome a Royal Air Force team to the arena to take on the home team. The RAF edged ahead in the first chukka but a strong second chukka for Druids Lodge, aided by some two pointers from George Fraemohs, put them ahead at half time. The RAF began to stage a comeback in chukka 3 but they couldn’t quite catch the home team, all of whom have been playing a lot of arena polo this season and the score at the final bell was 15 – 11 to Druids Lodge.
Black Aces got off to a strong start in the 8 goal Watersfield Trophy final with the score 6-2 in their favour at the end of chukka 1. Silverwood found their groove in chukka 2 with Robin Ormerod and George Shelton notching up seven goals between them and some strong marking from Hayley Hyde-Andrews kept Maurice somewhat under control. The score sat at Black Aces 10 – Silverwood 9 at half time.
Silverwood came out all guns blazing after half time with goals flying in in quick succession. Black Aces also kept up the pressure and were only a goal behind in the final chukka for a time before Silverwood opened the lead up again, the final score Silverwood 19 – Black Aces 16.
